We’ve got a lot to look forward to this coming weekend. The holiday season is fully upon us, which means a few things for us at CrossFit New Haven. First, Lisa Siedlarz is hosting a stocking stuffer party for her Stockings for Veteran’s Event on Friday night. Saturday night is our Holiday Party, and the following morning is one of our favorite 5k Road Races, the Christopher Martin’s 5k Run for Children. Learn more about each event below!
When: Friday night, 12/9 from 6:30pm – 9:30pm
Where: CrossFit New Haven
Event Page: https://www.facebook.com/events/328475097532618/
Details: Hosted by Lisa Siedlarz and CrossFit New Haven, this is Lisa’s 9th year participating in Stockings for Soldiers. For a few weeks now people have been bringing in various items which will all be stuffed into stockings and delivered to the VA Hospital in West Haven. We’re looking for your help stuffing what we hope will be upwards of 250 stockings! You’re invited to bring your favorite adult beverages, some food to share, and definitely some holiday spirit (or spirits?!). Head to the back room for the stocking stuffing party at 6:30pm.
Can’t make the event but still want to help out? Lisa will be accepting donations of items and cash up until Friday, December 9th. Check out her previous blog post to see what type of items they’re looking for. You can also email Lisa directly with any specific questions. Lisa@SoHuNewHaven.org
CrossFit New Haven Holiday Party
When: Saturday, 12/10 from 7:00pm – whenever you want
Where: Trinity Bar, 157 Orange St, New Haven, CT 06510
Details: We work out together all the time. We see each other in the gym and talk about our day, how work was, how much the workout is going to suck, or how excited you are for X movement, but do we really ever get to just hang out? This is our chance to get together outside of the gym and let loose, laugh and joke with friends, get to know each other outside of the gym, and have some delicious drinks and food. Come hungry for the awesome food spread awaiting you when you arrive. Bring some cash for your drinks, and be ready with those dancing shoes – our favorite mixmaster, DJ Benny will be playing music all night long. If you haven’t been to one of our holiday parties in the past, you may not know how much fun this night actually is. You and your significant other, whether they’re a member or not, are invited to celebrate the end of 2016 with us. Dress up, dress down, or wear a Santa suit. You’ll see people in tuxes, and people in jeans and a t-shirt (you know who you are, Officer). Don’t get caught up in the details, just get your butts there at 7:00pm!
When: Sunday, 12/11 at 10:15am (meet up at 10:00am)
Where: Race start is at Christopher Martin’s. We’ll meet up at the bus stop shelter in front of the Mobile station at 10:00am.
Parking: you’re welcome to park at the gym and walk down. Or if you can find legal parking on a side street close by.
Details: First, if you’ve never run a 5K this is one of the best ones to get your feet wet. It’s a fairly “easy” course in that there are no hills obstacles or foreign terrain. Of course, it’s still a 5K and for some of us (hi, that’s me), it’s still tough. Just like a class WOD though, you’ll be doing it with a bunch of other amazing CrossFit New Haven people! It doesn’t matter if you’re going for a PR, or just showing up to flush out the holiday party from the night before (hi, that’s me again). All that matters is you get out and run. The after party is not one to be missed either. While the race technically “ends” around 11:00/11:30, the after-party has been known to last into the early afternoon. We even helped Lisa clean out her beer fridge last year. It was a necessary pit stop on the way to our next destination… another bar of course.
There’s still time to sign up! Check out this link here and we hope to see you at 10:00am near the bus stop!
