Well, Gang, it's officially the last week of January 2016 and I'm here to check in on your goals and resolutions for the New Year. Personally, I set out in early January with some short and long term goals and I've been doing my best to meet them. There are days and whole weeks where it's been challenging for me to do what I set out to do. Sometimes it's discouraging and other times I cut myself a break and realize that I'm doing the best I can. It has been a huge help for me to have a Coach (Poach) who knows my goals and the challenges with my schedule, and to offer a push when necessary, and a pass when he knows I'm barely keeping my head above water. We reevaluate when needed and make adjustments along the way.
You see the thing about goals is that they aren't set in stone. Occasionally we'll set a goal in the distant future and realize that we reached it much sooner than anticipated. Awesome! That tells us that next time we can dig a little deeper or be a bit more confident in our abilities. Alternatively, sometimes we set goals and resolutions with the fresh feeling of the New Year and then realize perhaps we need more time, or perhaps they were too lofty at the outset and we need to be more realistic or break them down into smaller achievements over time. So where do you stand?
Have you logged a goal on the SMART Goals board?
How are you doing with the progress?
Have you had to make any revisions to the goal or the timeline in order to achieve it?
Have you given yourself the appropriate tools, time, and effort to meet them?
I've found that it's helpful to have someone to whom you'll be accountable to meeting your goal. Whether it be a coach, like Coach Dags' Back-to-Basics program, or a friend or gym partner, share your goals with someone you know will push you and encourage you, and help you to meet them. And do the same for that person.
James reached his first goal much sooner than anticipated so he added another to the board!
Keep up the great work, friends! We are all excited to see what 2016 has in store for you.
