May Female Athlete of the Month

in Athlete Of The Month by Coach John D'Ags

Daniela Gurian is way past the hardest hurdle and is our May Female Athlete of the Month!  Read on:

1.  When and where did you start CrossFitting?
Just about 11 months ago I got my start right here at CFNH!  I had talked about wanting to do it for at least 5 years before I finally did.

2.  How have your goals and/or motivations changed in the last year?  What are some of your goals for 2017?

After I moved here, I didn't join any sports teams, and trying to work out in a gym never really worked out (pun intended). My main goal was to just learn all the movements and maybe I would increase my speed and stamina.  I know I was someone who originally "didn't want to get big from all the lifting," but now my overall goal is to improve and be strong, no matter what it looks like.

In the coming year I would like to get all of my overhead barbell movements over 100lbs and to be able to do toes-to-bar.

3.  What are some of your recent accomplishments of which you're most proud?

I am soooo close to a strict pull-up. I am proud of being able to do 10 real push ups. Running also sucks less.

4.  Do you adhere to any form of daily/weekly diet regimen to power your workouts?  What does your dream cheat meal/day look like?

I don't follow any specific diet but I try to eat in moderation, limiting the desserts and other simple carbs.

My dream cheat meal is a hot oil pizza from Colony Grill, several hard ciders, and a blendini from Rita's. It's not so much of a dream since I may have had that last week.

5. Design 2 WODs:  1 that is your bread & butter, filled with your movement strengths; 1 that is all goats (movement weaknesses you feel you need to improve).

Bread and butter:
4-4 minute AMRAPs with 2 minutes of rest in between each round.

5 push jerks
5 box jumps
5 push ups

Buy in 800m run

6. How do you spend your time when you're away from CFNH?

I work full time as a retail pharmacist. On my days off I walk to the beach in West Haven near my house. I also like to hike at Sleeping Giant where I choose a different combination of trails each time. My dog Hachi is a great hiking companion.

7. What is one fact that other CFNHers may not know about you?

I'm not as quiet as I may seem. Once I start talking it's hard to shut me up. I like to think I'm pretty funny. I have a lot of free time and have been looking for a way to be able to fill it with volunteering so if you have an idea, I would love to hear it!

8.  Do you have any motivational thoughts or suggestions to folks just getting started at CFNH?

Anyone who just started has already gotten over the biggest hurdle.  No one here is judging you as long as you remain safe in your movements
