It’s time for the next In-House Throwdown at CrossFit New Haven!
On Saturday, February 4th starting at 9:00am we will be hosting our annual partner WOD in “competition” style format. In the past, we’ve found that the word “competition” scared a lot of people away. Although it shouldn’t, because this is completely and 100% for F-U-N! This is not a “serious” competition, in fact, it’s no different than a Sunday partner workout - except that we’ll have 3 workouts instead of 1. See below for details and some EXAMPLES of past Throwdown workouts. You won’t know the actual workouts until the day of, but rest assured they won’t look much different than a regular WOD you show up for every day.
A 2-person team partner throwdown to express all the things we work on every day. Teams can be made up of any two CrossFit New Haven members - same sex team, mixed sex teams, masters and minor teams, one person RX, one person scaled, one person super scaled and one person super RX+. Basically, we could care less who your partner is as long as you get one!
Don’t have a partner or maybe you don’t know many people? No problem! We’ll pair you up with someone that morning. You never know, they could end up being your true swolemate
Saturday, February 4th from 8:30am - 12:30pm. Come in and start getting warmed starting at 8:30. At 9:00am we’ll go over the workouts and standards and the first heat of the first WOD will kick off at 9:30am. There will be 3 total workouts.
Food & Drink
In the past, we’ve also made this a potluck and this year will be no different. Bring your favorite paleo or clean-prepared dish to share. It can be an appetizer, main course, or Dessert (please, please let them all be desserts). Bring your favorite post-WOD beverages too, since you know we’ll be hanging out having a few afterward. We may even spill over to a bar on State St in the early afternoon, if history is any indication.
The REAL Competition
As mentioned above, you can partner with whoever you’d like from CFNH. As such, there will be no “ranking” or “divisions.” Rather, we’ll score everything in Wodify by entering your results. ***NOTE: THIS DAY DOES NOT COUNT AS ONE OF YOUR DAYS PER WEEK*** So go ahead and cross that lame excuse off the list.
So what’s the REAL competition??? Awards will be given for:
Best Team Name - get creative and have a back story! Like your favorite comic book or WWF characters (WWF, yes, F, not E) superstars, the best ones have an epic back story. “Get creative” can also be read as, “make some sh*t up and make it good!”
Best Team Costume - if you’re going to have the back story of a superhero then you and your teammate should probably DRESS like a superhero, right? Or maybe your backstory is that you’re a lumberjack who decided to try this CrossFit thing since cuttin’ trees and throwin’ logs ain’t no thang. Then you should probably dress like a lumberjack. Were you a tennis star who was quick on their feet with a mean backhand and wanted to see if you could smash some weights instead of aces? Try dressing like a tennis pro!
See what we’re driving at? This is a fun day. Of course, you could just show up as Timmy and Susie and hit some workouts, eat some food, have some drinks, and enjoy your Saturday too. That’s also cool.
We may have awards for some other things as well, but you’ll have to work for it
What about the workouts?
They will be no different than any other workout you do when you come in for a regular class. Here are some examples of past year's Throwdown workouts. Remember, these are NOT for 2017.
